Valentine’s Day – It’s Not Just a Couples Day

I know Valentine’s Day centers around couples with roses, chocolates, and special dinners. I think that is lovely for those who like to celebrate in this way.

Growing up, our mother made every holiday special. She’d help us make Valentine’s for our grandparents and classmates to hand out at school. Back then, we made little Valentines boxes and containers to fill those special cards and treats. Do they still do that in the schools? I guess I will find out on the 14th of February to see what our grand’s school does? It can change year to year it seems.

If you follow me or know me at all, you know I LOVE hearts of every color. I tend to add them to everything I make. Yes, sometimes I get carried away, but nothing makes me smile more than colorful hearts. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 ❤️🧡💛💚💙

Happy Valentine's Day

February is Kindness Month

"Kindness Wins," by Holly Raymond
“Kindness Wins,” by Holly Raymond

Did you know, February is “Random Acts of Kindness” month? As far as I’m concerned, it should be every month and I think you will agree. 🙂

You can read more about that here. ► Random Acts of Kindness Foundation on how to spread kindness this month and always.

We all know what it looks and feels like to be kind to others. Something I’d like to address today along with kindness is to be…

“Be Kind Online.”

What does that look like?

It can be as simple a wishing one a nice day, congratulating them on a task they finish, or sending them well wishes on their special occasions.

What it doesn’t look like is, telling or suggesting something to someone online that you wouldn’t say to their face. I think we all know what this looks like. Sadly, all too often we see so much of this on the social media sites. It’s best to just click away and find a post or page you enjoy. ❤️

Children’s Books I’ve Read and Reviewed

As, some of you know by now, I’m reviewing and reporting just children’s and middle grade books on my blog these days. Yes, I still read adult books but will save those reviews in another way. (See January 2026 books ► here.)

Check out these sweet 5-star books for this month!

"Thankful," by Elaine Vickers and Pictures by, Samantha Cotterill.

The girl in this story, takes paper, scissors and pencils, and writes on each slip of paper, things she’s thankful for each day. Soup, sand, the moon, and a friend are just a few she enjoys. This is how  the chain grows. I loved the adorable, unique illustrations in this book and the thankful sentiments .

In this fun pan filled picture book from Terry border, milk, cupcake, waffle, and the rest of the class find out that, whether they’re sweet, sour, salty or savory school friends are great friends.
