These months are flying by faster and faster.

School has begun, for most. Wishing you all a wonderful and successful school year.

September Fun

When my sister and I were growing up, we loved playing word games. One of them, we called, “How Many Words Can You Find?” After putting on a timer for 5 minutes, we’d start and write as many as we could. We’d tally up our words and the one that came up with the most, won the game. It was fun to find long words to use. The longer the better.

If you play this game, adjust your time, according to ages.

What words can you find in “September?”

Here are a few I found.

Exciting News

Remember last month, I wrote about my third “Maggie, Millie, and Merrie” story coming soon? If you missed it, you can read more here.

It’s finished!

It’s currently going through my Beta Readers. For those that may not know, Beta Readers are those that have agreed to read this story to help mark errors and suggest improvements. I call these wonderful people, my Street Team. Their advise and time is valuable and appreciated.

In other news…

If you follow me on Facebook, at Books by Rose, then you saw this poster I made of a book I’m co-writing with Cat Michaels – Writer.

We asked our viewers if they were working on a WIP, and to share five words about their upcoming story. We had a great response and we are looking forward to all the wonderful books coming the rest of this year and in 2020.

Here’s five words on what Cat and I are writing about. It’s a MG tale and it’s coming together nicely. We are looking to release it in 2020.

Many people ask us how we write a book together when we live 725 miles away from each other?

We do this by working in Google Docs, emails, and many conference calls. I like to call them my “Chat with Cat” calls. Sometimes, our calls can go from one hour to close to three. We are getting better about keeping these calls shorter by organizing what we will discuss ahead of time. When this is all said and done, we may even write a piece on this for those out there working with a co-writer.

Do you have a WIP (Work in process) coming this year or 2020? Please let us know all about it or leave five words in the comment section below.

Before I leave, I want to share this recipe that I’ve had tucked away in my recipe box for years. I made this many times over the summer months. It was a big hit. With the fall months ahead, this dessert would be great for entertaining or after dinner dessert.

Apple Crisp Dessert

You can use any canned or fresh pie ingredients.

1 can of any pie filling

¾ cup instant Oatmeal

¾ cup flour

¾ cup brown sugar

¼ teaspoon soda

¼ teaspoon baking powder

½ cup of melted butter (1 stick)

Mix all of the ingredients above, except the pie filling, until crumbly.

Put half of the mixture in a greased 8 x 8 inch pan. You can use a regular size pie pan, as well.

Add your pie filling.

Sprinkle the other half of the mixture over the top.

Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 20 – 30 minutes, until golden brown.

Don’t forget to try different pie fillings, like cherry, blueberry, or strawberry. It’s great hot or cold. Some like it plain, and some like it with and dollop of whip cream or ice cream.

What are you looking forward to in September?

Please write us a note and tell us about your plans.

Don’t forget to play the “September” word game and leave a word in the comment section below.

I wish you all a fantastic September.

Happy Reading!

My word for you Rosie is meet, I would love to meet you one day.
We call that recipe Apple Crumble and it’s a huge hit in our family too, my middle son’s favourite.
Always happy to be one of your beta readers. I admit it is still on my to do list, I have been a bit busy lately, sorry.
My WIP is the 3rd in my Adamson Adventures, a few words to give a hint about it, Australia, Outback, drought, cyclone, fossils, dinosaurs.

Thank you for your word, Sandra. What an awesome pleasure it would be to “meet” you someday. We have lots in common.
Yes, the Apple Crisp is sometimes called Apple Crumble here, too. Isn’t it a treat?
I appreciate you always for your help. Since you wrote in, I’ve heard from you and it’s wonderful! Thank you again Sandra.
Ooh, your next Adamson Adventure sounds amazing. I can’t wait to read it.
As always, thanks for stopping by.

Ohhhh thanks for the word game. Apparently my 7 year old got top of his class recently when the teacher asked them to find all the words you could make out of ‘peanut butter’ – it really can be a lot!

    • rosieadmin

How fun Julie and good for your son. I love word games.
      Thanks for your note.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful September.
      Happy weekend!

Yum! Thanks for the recipe! My word is temp.

I have 2 WIP’s. The next book in my The Rite of Wands series, which is titled The Rite of Abnegation will be coming out in April. It’s a YA Fantasy.

I also have something else coming out later this year, which is so secret, I’m not even allowed to talk about! Stay tuned!

    • rosieadmin

Thanks for stopping by Mackenzie and for playing my word game.
Your WIPs sounds exciting! I’m looking forward to hearing more.
Enjoy these coming months. You will be busy.
      Happy weekend, Mackenzie!

The word of the day is “Pest”. The last half of September will be spent dog and critter sitting at my son’s house while they are away, so looking forward to lots and lots of writing time soon! I have not made an Apple Crisp in several years. Thanks for reminding me and anxious to make one again now! 🤠 🐻

Hi James, I know these fall months ahead are your favorite. Happy writing on your days to come.
I wish I could remember who gave me this wonderful Apple Crisp recipe. I like to write their names down on the back, but missed this one. It’s fun to think of that person when I make it.
Thanks for playing my word game. “Pest” is a good one. I have thought of that word a lot over the summer with our squirrel situation. They been having a hay day on our tomatoes this year.
PS. I forgot to tell you that I’m re-reading “Pine Holler Christmas: A Little Red Bear Story.” I am enjoying Lolly and Rusty the Fairydiddle. I’ll review soon.
Thanks for your note and have a great weekend and September.

I am a terrible word-gamer, Rosie, but hub is brilliant at it! Congrats on your 3M book being ready to release. I’m def trying that apple cobbler recipe! Great for bad bakers like me and easy for kids, too.

btw…..that new middle grade book you’re writing sounds beyond cool. Can’t wait to see it finished

    • rosieadmin

You may not be a word gamer, Cat, but you have the best way with words. You are making our MG book come alive. I can’t wait to see it finish, either.
Yes, the Apple dessert is very kid-friendly. Many times I’ve made it for our sons on their birthdays. They prefer it over cake.
Have a wonderful week, Cat. Stay safe on the east coast. 🙂

  6. Julie Gorges

Love word games! I play Words with Friends, Boggle with Friends, and have a puzzle app on my phone. Here’s another word: pest. I am privileged to be one of your beta readers and loved your new book. Can’t wait to see the one you and Cat are working on. Wishing much success for both projects and thanks for sharing your apple crisp recipe. Yum!

    • rosieadmin

Yay! Love that you are a word gamer, Julie.
Great find on the word, “pest.” 🙂
Thank you so much for being one of my Beta Readers. I appreciate your input and value your opinions.
Yes, Cat and I are having lots of fun with our story. I sat down and wrote four chapters in one sitting the other day. I’ve never done that before but I have to take advantage when the writing bug hits me. Ha!
You and your family will love the Apple Crisp. Once you have all the ingredients on hand, it’s super easy to make for last minute events.
Thanks for your note and have a wonderful weekend, Julie.
